Research and Documentation at the Katoki Institute for Ubuntu Leadership generates, preserves and shares knowledge on leadership, institutions, communities and sustainable humanity. It combines scholarly inquiry with the systematic documentation of leadership experience, organisational memory and public policy engagement.
KIUL recognises that societies and institutions cannot learn effectively when important experiences remain undocumented. Leadership knowledge is often carried through personal memory, professional practice, oral testimony and institutional history. Without deliberate documentation, much of this knowledge may be lost.
The programme therefore connects research, oral history and policy dialogue in order to produce knowledge that is intellectually rigorous, contextually grounded and useful to leaders, institutions and communities.

Preserving Experience, Producing Knowledge
A society that does not document its leadership experience risks losing valuable knowledge whenever leaders leave office, institutions change or communities undergo transformation. KIUL preserves such experience while also generating new evidence on leadership and institutional life.
This work contributes to leadership education, organisational learning, public policy and the formation of future generations. It also ensures that African perspectives, community knowledge and institutional histories are recognised as important sources of insight rather than being excluded from formal knowledge systems.
